Each tile measures 145 × 15 × 9 mm and is supplied paper-fronted in 300 × 300 mm sheets.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe glaze begins as a composition of minerals. During firing, these materials melt, move and respond to the porcelain body beneath them. The glaze may gather more deeply at an edge or become more translucent where its application is thinner. The resulting shifts in tone, depth and mineral marking are not printed onto Nigi. They are formed as part of the tile.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIts finer, linear proportion stretches colour across the wall, allowing small changes in the glaze to accumulate into a quieter composition. Across the 21 colours, the photography reveals a broad ceramic range: some glazes remain soft and restrained, while others form translucent edges, darker mineral centres or stronger contrasts of matt and reflected light. Colour draws the eye, texture catches the light, and Nigi’s rhythm becomes clearer as the installation expands.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe family workshop operates in a way rarely encountered in international commerce. It does not use email, a mobile phone or a computer, and communication beyond face-to-face visits still travels by fax.
