For WOW House 2024 at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, Michaelis Boyd designed the House of Rohl Primary Bathroom as a richly layered interior of curved architecture, hand-worked surfaces and Kaji Border in Vintage Green.

A Room Within the WOW House

WOW House brings together a sequence of full-scale interiors created by invited designers and brands. The House of Rohl Primary Bathroom was conceived as an immersive room rather than a conventional display, using arched openings, painted surfaces, stone and ceramic to build a complete atmosphere.

Vintage Green Within the Architecture

Kaji Border lines the basin area and curved shower enclosure. The narrow tile follows the rounded geometry closely, maintaining a consistent vertical rhythm as the wall changes direction.

Vintage Green moves between deep olive, charcoal and warmer reflected tones. This variation gives the tiled areas depth while connecting with the landscape-like painted surfaces, planting and aged metal finishes elsewhere in the room.

Framed Views and Curved Openings

Arched doorways organise the sequence through the bathroom, revealing the tiled surfaces gradually. From the adjoining space, the dark ceramic reads as a precise frame; at close range, individual variations in glaze and relief become more apparent.

The project demonstrates how a narrow Japanese border tile can become part of the architecture itself, following curves and defining smaller functional zones without fragmenting the wider composition.
