Our partnerships span a broad spectrum of Japanese manufacturers, from small family-run studios with just a few artisans to LIXIL, one of Japan’s largest corporations, with an annual turnover of $5 billion USD.

The History of Our Tiles

Japanese ceramic craftsmanship flourished in the 16th century, when military commanders were gifted exquisite tea sets—the finer the ceramic and glaze, the greater the prestige. This intense pursuit of excellence led to the innovations and skills that still define Japanese ceramics today.

Quality Matters

Every tile consists of two key elements:

1. The Body: Crafted from the finest porcelain-grade clays, ensuring strength, durability, and frost resistance, ideal for indoor and outdoor use.

2. The Glaze: Inspired by the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi (the beauty of imperfection).

Why Our Glazes Are Unique

Unlike mass-produced tiles with uniform factory finishes and digitally printed patterns, our tiles develop natural variations during the firing process. Even when the same glaze is applied, the tile’s position in the kiln creates one-of-a-kind patterns, textures, and colour shifts.

This technique is especially evident in the ancient “Yohen” kiln process, where the glaze’s organic reaction to heat creates truly dramatic, hand-sorted mosaic sheets, assembled manually for the most authentic aesthetic.
