About

Mittsu Japanese Tiles

Mittsu is a specialist supplier of Japanese ceramic wall tiles, working directly with manufacturers across Japan to bring authentic materials to architectural use.

The focus is not on volume. It is on material quality, surface depth and the careful selection of tiles that perform as architectural surfaces rather than decorative finishes, supported by direct involvement and specialist knowledge at every stage.

See how these materials are used in completed interiors on our Projects.

Curated from across Japan

Japan produces a wide range of ceramic tiles, from small independent workshops to large-scale manufacturers.

Mittsu works across this spectrum, from family-run studios with a small number of craftsmen to major manufacturers such as LIXIL.

The collection is curated, not comprehensive. Each tile is selected for its material quality, surface character and suitability for architectural use.

Material, not pattern

Japanese tiles are defined by how they are made.

Rather than relying on printed surfaces, colour and texture are developed during firing in the kiln. This creates variation, depth and a surface that responds to light.

The result is a material that behaves differently across a wall, particularly at scale.

A project-led approach

Mittsu operates on a project-led basis, working closely with architects and interior designers to support specification and material selection.

The tiles are used across hospitality, retail and residential interiors where surface quality is an integral part of the design.

Rather than acting as background finishes, these materials are often used to define the character of a space.

Examples of how the tiles are used can be seen in our Projects.

Direct access and specialist support

Mittsu operates with a focused, project-led approach rather than high-volume distribution.

Each enquiry is handled directly by a senior team member with detailed knowledge of Japanese tiles, their production and their application.

This allows for informed decisions at the point of specification, particularly where variation, layout and installation detail are important.
