3D Digital Assets for Japanese Tiles
Mittsu digital assets allow Japanese ceramic surfaces to be integrated into architectural visualisation and specification workflows with greater accuracy.
These assets are developed from real tiles, capturing glaze movement, surface texture and reflection behaviour that are difficult to replicate using generic materials.
Designed for architectural workflows
The assets are created using physically based rendering, ensuring materials respond realistically to light across different environments and rendering engines.
This allows architects, interior designers and CGI teams to test surface behaviour, proportion and layout before specification.
The assets support concept development, client presentations and interior visualisations where surface quality is a defining part of the design.
Why this matters for Japanese tiles
Japanese tiles are defined by their surface.
Glaze variation, depth and reflection are formed during firing, not applied afterwards. These characteristics are often lost when represented using standard digital materials.
Accurate digital assets allow these qualities to be represented more faithfully during design development, particularly where light, shadow and tonal movement are central to the scheme.
From visualisation to specification
Digital assets are not a replacement for physical samples.
They are used to support early-stage design decisions and communicate how a surface will behave within a space.
- Exploring material direction
- Testing scale and layout
- Creating realistic architectural visualisations
- Communicating design intent
- Shortlisting products before sampling
Final selection should always be made using physical samples under project lighting conditions.
Used in architectural visualisation
Mittsu digital assets are already being used in architectural concept development and interior visualisation workflows.
The Home Spa Concept project was developed using Reawote digital assets based on Mittsu Japanese Tiles, allowing glaze, texture and surface depth to be explored during the design process before physical specification.
This workflow helps architects and designers communicate atmosphere, materiality and spatial character more accurately during early-stage project development.
Access the library
Digitised collections can be explored through the Mittsu website, with selected ranges available as fully developed digital assets.
The Mittsu digital asset library is available through two access points:

Digital assets form part of a wider specification workflow, alongside product samples, technical data and project references.
Mittsu digital assets extend Japanese ceramic surfaces into the design process, allowing texture, glaze and light to be explored before specification.
Digital assets support visualisation and design development. Final specification should be confirmed with physical samples and current product information.
